Dur Mohammad Ashna was born in 1959 in the village of Deh Khwaja in Kandahar, Afghanistan. He completed his primary education at the KandaharExperimental School and later graduated from the twelfth grade of Mirwais Nikka High School in Kandahar. Later, he received his diploma from the Faculty of Political Science of the Military University, and during his tenure, he received his diploma in law and political science from the night faculty of Kabul University. In 1978 he received a diploma from the Military and Political Academy in Kiev, Ukraine. From 1979 to 1989, he served in the Department of Political Affairs of the Army, in various departments as a political director and deputy. He first immigrated to Germany in 1990 and then to Australia two years later in 1992. In Australia, he received his diploma in social studies and continued his studies in this field. In 1999, he co-founded the Afghan Australian Philanthropic Association with other Afghans to serve Afghan refugees. Then in 2004 he founded a radio station called Awaz-e Dost and a website called Bashardostan, both of which are world famous. Mr. Ashna has been awarded two medals and more than twenty awards and accolades by federal and state parliaments, local governments, and other organizations for their service to Afghans living in Australia.
